The Interfaith Rainforest Initiative was invited by the Coordinator of Indigenous Organizations of the Amazon River Basin (COICA) to contribute to the 4th Amazon Summit and the 2nd Amazonian Women’s Congress and brief indigenous peoples from all nine countries of the Amazon and consult on how the initiative should be designed to bolster, enhance and advance their efforts to protect forests. The initiative was officially endorsed by both congresses, which welcomed the commitment of religious leaders and faith-based communities to “defending the defenders” of rainforests.
