IRI DRC holds capacity building workshop in North-Kivu

In late March, IRI DRC held a two-day capacity building workshop in Goma, North Kivu. The workshop was designed as a training on key rainforest issues as well as an inception mission to establish a basis for launching an IRI North Kivu provincial chapter. The event was attended by 30 leaders and included support and presentations by Rainforest Foundation Norway and IPDP.  A comprehensive overview was given on the mission, mandate and goals of IRI DRC and an in-depth training provided on the rights of indigenous peoples in the country. Participants signed an act of support asking for the implementation of IRI DRC in the province as soon as possible. A press conference was held regarding the intention of IRI DRC establishing a provincial chapter in North Kivu which was attended by the advisor to the provincial Minister of the Environment.
