IRI Peru appeals to Vice-Minister of Environment for action to address the situation in the Amazon

IRI Peru held a working meeting with the Vice Minister of Strategic Development of Natural Resources of MINAM, Fey Yamina Silva Vidal, to present concerns about the situation in the Amazon, including the ongoing oil spills, the widespread deforestation, the insecurity of environmental defenders, the measures adopted in the framework of the Climate Emergency declared by the government, and the lack of information on the progress towards commitments made in the NDCs. The Vice Minister, who was accompanied by the Director of Biodiversity and the Director of the Forestry Program, reported on the progress of the NDCs and the mitigation measures that have been implemented as a result of the Climate Emergency, and reviewed the Action Plan agreed under the cooperation agreement signed between IRI Peru and MINAM. IRI Peru has been invited to be part of the Working Group that will be formed to address the issue of spills in the Amazon and the situation of indigenous peoples. Also present at the meeting was the director of CAAAP, Manuel Cornejo, who is a member of the IRI Peru Advisory Council.
