IRI Peru meets with Ministry of Human Rights to provide input on forest law

On February 23rd, IRI Peru held a meeting with Edgardo Rodríguez, Director General of Human Rights of the Ministry of Human Rights, to analyze the modification of the Forest Law that opens the doors to further deforestation. The law protects deforestation already being carried out to exempt it from the law approved by the EU not to allow products from deforested areas to enter the EU. Within this framework, a Mechanism of Voluntary Due Obedience to Stop Deforestation has been developed that is signed by farmers and producers committing not to deforest and that can be presented to the EU for the sale of their products. Efforts are being made to coordinate with the EU representation for the recognition of this mechanism.
