The IRI DRC Advisory council held its first 2024 meeting to review the work of IRI DRC in 2023 and to plan actions for 2024. It was agreed that IRI DRC will advance awareness-raising and civic education actions for the fight against deforestation in the country. The meeting was held at the Presidency of the Eglise du Christ au Congo (ECC), was chaired by the 2nd Vice-President of the ECC and moderated by the Coordinator of IRI DRC/ECC, and was attended by 13 people, including 8 members of the Advisory Council representing the following structures: CENCO (Conférence Episcopale Nationale du Congo: Catholic Church), ECC (Eglise du Christ au Congo: Protestant), CNRP (Conseil National des Religions pour la Paix), Salvation Army, CONATC (Autorités Coutumières), PIDP (Peuples Autochtones Pygmées). The meeting was followed by a press briefing carried out by Radio Télévision ECC to increase recognition of IRI DRC as a key actor in addressing deforestation.
