The Interfaith Initiative for Tropical Forests in Colombia is preparing to participate in the next Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Biodiversity, COP 16, which will be held from October 21 to November 1 in Cali. The objective of this important global event is to review the fulfilment of the targets that countries committed to achieve in their national action plans for the protection of biodiversity.
In this sense, IRI-Colombia is moving forward in the design of a work plan with the aim of actively participating in COP 16. To this end, it continues to be linked to the Listen to the Amazon Alliance, in which joint lines of work and routes of action are being defined to achieve a more effective impact on the Biodiversity Conference.
She also participated on April 4 in the workshop “Building a path to COP 16 on Biodiversity”, convened by the Norwegian embassy. During this civil society meeting, the following issues were discussed, among others:
- Priorities of the National Government at COP 16.
- Government vision on the participation of civil society organizations in COP 16.
- Definition of guidelines for the conversation between civil society organizations and national authorities in the run-up to COP 16.
