Iri Colombia advances strategic communications and campaigns, reaching over 2 million people

To awaken public consciousness and mobilize faith and citizenship, IRI Colombia launched a six-month radio campaign on more than 80 stations, including 14 Amazonian municipalities where local chapters operate. The broadcasts reached strategic stations such as Chairá Estéreo, La Voz de la Esperanza, Amazonía Estéreo, and Marandúa Stereo, carrying the message that the health of the Amazon forest is directly tied to the wellbeing of every Colombian.

In parallel, IRI Colombia produced a new radio message highlighting the impact of deforestation on air quality. The spot aired on ten community radio stations in municipalities with local chapters, as well as 83 additional stations operated by the National Police and Army.

Complementing radio outreach, IRI Colombia expanded its presence in national media through opinion pieces and editorials. Pastor Julieth Quevedo, religious leader and IRI coordinator in San Vicente del Caguán, published a powerful column titled “The time to act is now”, urging faith communities to embrace their moral duty to care for creation and stop Amazon deforestation. In El Espectador, Anglican Bishop Elías García authored “The Amazon at the crossroads: Colombia must lead its defense”, calling on the Colombian government to lead transformative action at the upcoming ACTO Summit. His piece emphasized that deforestation cannot be curbed through military operations alone, but requires comprehensive solutions linking environmental and social justice while recognizing Indigenous Peoples as guardians of the forest.

Following the passing of Pope Francis, IRI Colombia published a tribute in El Espectador recognizing his spiritual and ecological legacy. Authored by Bishop Francisco Duque, the editorial highlighted Laudato Si’ and the Pope’s denunciation of climate injustice and deforestation, reaffirming his enduring moral guidance for planetary protection and care for the most vulnerable.

Finally, a large-format billboard was installed at La Macarena airport to warn about forest fires and the drivers of forest loss, reinforcing visual messaging in a critical deforestation zone.
