On August 21, 2025, IRI Indonesia and the Bishops’ Conference of Indonesia (Konferensi Waligereja Indonesia – KWI) convened a hybrid Guidebook Launch and Capacity-Building Workshop on rainforest protection, bringing together 71 Catholic leaders, representing dioceses, commissions, and Catholic institutions nationwide.
The sessions emphasized that caring for creation is a spiritual and moral duty, drawing from Laudato Si’ and Catholic Social Teaching to integrate ecological values into parish life, pastoral work, and education. Participants discussed parish-based reforestation, eco-liturgies, and youth programs inspired by Pope Francis’s call for ecological conversion.
Supported by AMAN, academics, and youth groups, the workshop led to actionable plans for Green Church initiatives, eco-theology curriculum, and policy advocacy, reinforcing IRI’s partnership with the Catholic Church as a driving force for faith-based climate justice in Indonesia.
“This climate crisis cannot be faced alone. We must act together across religions to protect tropical forests and the environment.”
— Fr. Aloysius Budi Purnomo, KWI
