IRI INDONESIA LAUNCHES YOUTH CHAPTER

On September 14, 2025, IRI Indonesia, in collaboration with the Interfaith Youth Climate Alliance (IYCA), officially launched the IRI Indonesia Youth Chapter through a hybrid Scientific Workshop held at the Ruang Berkarya – Jakarta Library, HB Jassin Documentation Center, and online.

The event brought together 61 interfaith youth leaders representing Islam, Christianity, Catholicism, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Confucianism. Participants included activists, university students, and representatives from civil society, government institutions, and the private sector, reflecting a diverse coalition of Indonesia’s young changemakers.

The workshop carried the theme “Integrating Science and Spirituality: The Role of Youth in Protecting Tropical Forests and Indigenous Peoples’ Rights.” Its goal was not only to strengthen ecological literacy but also to inspire faith-driven leadership and intergenerational solidarity in the protection of tropical forests.

“Nature is a divine gift — and interfaith youth hold the moral strength to transform concern into concrete action.”
Faiza Fauziyah, Chair of the Interfaith Youth Presidium

The event produced three pillars of engagement:

  • Education: ecological literacy, podcasts, and creative media;
  • Action: partnerships with Indigenous communities and eco-projects;
  • Advocacy: youth campaigns, art exhibitions, and collaboration with universities.

The event concluded with the formal inauguration of the IRI Indonesia Youth Chapter, marking the beginning of a new platform for interfaith collaboration among young people. This chapter will serve as a national hub for education, advocacy, and collective action, linking youth movements with religious councils, Indigenous communities, and environmental coalitions.

The initiative also expanded IRI Indonesia’s partnerships with youth networks, NGOs, and universities, creating a pipeline for the next generation of interfaith environmental leaders. By combining science, spirituality, and creative energy, the Youth Chapter stands as a powerful testament to the potential of youth-led movements to turn moral conviction into measurable impact.
