NATIONAL EPISCOPAL CONFERENCE OF CONGO AND IRI-DCR STRENGTHEN FAITH-BASED ADVOCACY FOR FORESTS

The National Episcopal Conference of Congo (CENCO) hosted a strategic meeting to reinforce collaboration between the Catholic Church and interfaith networks in promoting forest protection and ecological justice.

Monsignor Donatien Nshole emphasizes the Church’s long-standing commitment to creation care. CENCO’s Vice President welcomed the initiative, citing the Church’s relationship with the Holy See as a platform for international advocacy on climate and biodiversity. Abbé Arsène Masumbuko highlighted the urgency of inclusive governance and the need for policies that uphold the rights of Indigenous and local communities.

“The Church has both the voice and the reach to move consciences toward an ecological conversion,” said Mons. Nshole.

The upcoming CENCO Assembly in December 2025 will dedicate a session to raising awareness among bishops and parish communities on deforestation and climate justice.
