IRI Indonesia contributed to the advocacy process for the Indigenous Peoples Bill through a public hearing with the Indonesian House of Representatives in Jakarta. IRI Indonesia supported coalition coordination, helped prepare Indigenous Peoples’ representatives for effective participation and aligned advocacy messages ahead of the hearing. It also helped shape the policy narrative by developing content on the importance of recognizing Indigenous Peoples’ spirituality, belief systems, sacred spaces and cultural systems within the bill. By linking spiritual values with land, forests, water and ecological governance, IRI Indonesia helped present Indigenous Peoples not only as rights holders, but as guardians of cultural and ecological continuity.
