With the aim of further strengthening coordinated efforts with other forestry organizations, IRI-Colombia joined forces with the Corporation for the Sustainable Development of the Northern and Eastern Amazon (CDA), Guaviare chapter, to hold a series of meetings to raise awareness about the 2026–2031 Management Plan for the Serranía de La Lindosa and Angosturas II National Protected Forest Reserve.

Renowned for its extraordinary biodiversity, its valuable millennia-old rock art, and for connecting the Amazonian forests with the savannas of the Orinoquía, this reserve is a protected natural area in Colombia that spans more than 28,000 hectares and serves as a buffer and protection zone near the Serranía de Chiribiquete National Natural Park.
The meetings took place on June 16, 18, and 19 and brought together 109 community leaders from the rural settlements of Nuevo Tolima, Cerro Azul, and El Retiro.
Five workshops were held on each day. The first addressed general concepts, conservation objectives, and the importance of this protected area. The second workshop focused on the biophysical and socioeconomic characteristics, as well as management conditions, in each of these rural settlements.
In the third workshop, which focused on the reserve’s land-use planning, community leaders learned about the land-use regulations in each management zone—permitted, conditional, and prohibited activities—based on the communities’ productive and daily activities.
The fourth workshop focused on the 2026–2031 Strategic Plan, its strategic priorities, the projects it outlines, and the benefits for the communities.
Additionally, IRI-Colombia conducted a workshop in which it presented the Initiative, its mission priorities, and our organization’s most notable achievements.
Through these processes, the CDA and IRI-Colombia seek, via inter-institutional coordination, to promote communities’ knowledge, ownership, and active participation in sustainable land management.
