Exploring the relationship between science, faith and business, and how, when they come together, they can contribute to the conservation of Amazonian tropical forests, was the focus of the IRI-Colombia conference “The Unexpected Strategy: Three Forces for a Resilient Future in the Amazon”, presented on September 10 at the “We are sustainable” forum of the Bogotá Chamber of Commerce. during the International Summit on Sustainability and Environmental Innovation, which brought together more than 34,000 national and international people.
“This unexpected strategy is a reminder that we need to think differently to achieve real transformations in the territories,” said Javier Eduardo Mendoza, an expert in sustainable development and social innovation, who highlighted resilience and the urgency of integrating being, thinking and doing. “We have fragmented these three areas, which in practice are reflected in science, faith and business. It is vital to understand again that we are one,” added the biologist and specialist in climate change and biodiversity.
The speaker highlighted the contribution of religious leaders, churches and faith-based organizations in the protection of strategic ecosystems such as the Amazon, and invited to unite science, faith and business to promote creative strategies that inspire actions in favor of nature and the planet.
The conference, part of the International Summit on Environmental Sustainability and Innovation, is part of the advocacy strategy of the Interreligious Initiative for Tropical Forests (IRI-Colombia), whose purpose is to motivate the private sector to take action in defense of the Amazon and its communities.
