On September 15, in Cartagena del Chairá (Caquetá), religious leaders of the local chapters in this municipality met in a day of dialogue to collectively build their Environmental Pastoral Action Plan.
“Through faith we come together to protect the Amazon, which is increasingly threatened by deforestation,” said Nudy María Oviedo, coordinator of IRI-Cartagena del Chairá.
The agreed roadmap includes awareness-raising activities in pastoral spaces such as masses, worship and catechesis; as well as the organization of an environmental festival focused on the protection of tropical forests and the defense of water. These actions will be aligned with the national campaign “No Forests, No Future”, which seeks to mobilize communities of faith in the defense of the Amazon.
Over the course of more than four years, religious leaders in the region have demonstrated that, despite the diversity of faiths, it is possible to work together to build an environmental pastoral care that strengthens ecological awareness and community action in defense of life.
