The IRI Colombia national conference, in December, was a powerful event that put on full display what the IRI mission, commitment and partnership looks like in action, and what it can achieve when it meets its potential. The speakers, presentations, panels and videos profiled a program that is making a real impact in the country, and that is positioning itself to enhance and expand its work in the months and years ahead. The event was viewed by more than 8,100 people and included opening remarks from the UN Assistant Secretary-General and the Norwegian Ambassador to Colombia, presentations by Frances Seymour (WRI) and Gregorio Diaz Mirabal (COICA), a panel of senior religious leaders, a panel of forest and climate exerts, and a panel of indigenous leaders and activists. The program closed with a strong declaration, reinforcing IRI Colombia’s commitment and resolve to be an inclusive movement for protecting and restoring rainforests in the country, and scaling up its work on education, on-the-ground mobilization, and political advocacy.
