IRI Brazil launches its first local chapter in the State of Acre

On 6 December, IRI Brazil officially launched its first local chapter. The launch event included the participation of 50 religious leaders as well as indigenous peoples, scientists and environmental activists. The religious traditions represented were: Catholicism, Evangelical, Spiritualist, Umbanda, Santo Daime, União do Vegetal, and Indigenous Spirituality. It was agreed that ten representative leaders will be part of an executive committee that will oversee the preparation of a 2023 action plan. Among the priorities already established are three awareness campaigns to reduce deforestation and fires, to restore the vegetation along the Acre River, and to mobilize the youth in socio-environmental actions. The “Amazonia Viva” film was showcased during the launch of the local chapter and left the participants touched and inspired.
