On 7-8 August, governments will gather in Belem, Brazil to discuss challenges and opportunities related to the Amazon, including deforestation, biodiversity conservation, sustainable development, and human rights.
IRI Brazil, IRI Colombia and IRI Peru will be on hand to deliver a call to action to public authorities, including proposals to: end deforestation by 2030; demarcate indigenous lands and create biodiversity conservation units; combat environmental crime, violence and drug trafficking; and invest in a bio-economy free of extractive industries and old infrastructure projects like dams and roads.
IRI is committed to bringing the spiritual resources and networks of religious leaders to bear in realizing a sustainable Amazon.
