On 24 April, IRI DRC hosted an Ecumenical Prayer for Environmental Protection at the Governorate of the Province of North Kivu to raise awareness on the urgent need to protect forests from the effects of climate change. The event was attended by over 500 people from diverse religious and faith traditions. During the event, 10 religious leaders offered prayers, asking for God’s forgiveness for humanity’s exploitation of the environment. Through the event, local residents of North Kivu gained a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness of spirituality, well-being, forests, and the environment, and committed themselves to promoting forest restoration through the One Plot, One Tree campaign.
