From 1-2 June, IRI Indonesia, in partnership with Climate Reality Indonesia, facilitated a Forest and Climate Youth Leadership Camp, which brought together 54 young leaders from eight different religious organisations across the country. Through a series of educational workshops and interactive discussions, participants explored the complexities of climate change, particularly its connection to deforestation and the vital role of rainforests in mitigating its effects. Workshops on renewable energy and interactive sessions on environmental advocacy equipped the participants with the knowledge and tools needed to become effective advocates for change in their communities. The participants also actively engaged in tree planting initiatives and highlighted their commitment to environmental stewardship through the development of compelling slogans promoting rainforest conservation. The participants expressed a deep understanding of the urgent need for action and a strong desire to contribute to the protection of Indonesia’s natural heritage to forge a sustainable future for the country. A follow-up discussion, to be held on 6 July, will provide a platform for participants to further develop their action plans, share their reflections on the camp, and collaborate on concrete initiatives to address the climate crisis and protect Indonesia’s rainforests.
