As part of its efforts to support the land reform process initiated by the Government of DRC in 2022, IRI DRC participated in a meeting of the Thematic Working Group 5 of Civil Society, which focused on legal review tools for land concessions over five hectares and validating contributions to the bill amending the current land law. The meeting brought together 21 participants, including delegates from civil society organisations, the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, the Ministry of Decentralisation and Customary Affairs, and the Ministry of Land Affairs represented by the National Commission for Structural Reforms (CONAREF). The meeting provided a critical opportunity for information-sharing between state and non-state actors on land reform progress, discussions on CONAREF’s legal review tools, and strengthening of civil society’s contributions to the draft land law, with a roadmap for continued advocacy.
