IRI Brazil’s advocacy contributed to the presidential veto of 63 provisions in the controversial Environmental Licensing Bill (PL 2,159/21) — preserving safeguards for Indigenous Peoples and local communities rights, Atlantic Forest protection, and financial-sector accountability.
This collective victory, achieved alongside civil society and faith allies, demonstrates how value-driven mobilization can shape national policy.
At the international level, IRI Brazil joined the Pan-Amazonian Dialogue of the Global Ethical Stocktake (COP30), co-hosted by UN Secretary-General António Guterres, President Lula, and Ministers Marina Silva (Brazil) and Irene Vélez (Colombia).
IRI’s representative, Carlos Henrique Silveira, presented ethical and interfaith perspectives for climate cooperation and later convened a São Paulo meeting between Minister of Environment, Marina Silva and 60 young evangelical leaders, advancing faith-based climate literacy across Brazil’s fastest-growing religious sector.
