IRI-Colombia and UNEP strengthen partnerships for the protection of tropical forests

The director of IRI-Colombia, Blanca Lucía Echeverry, met with the representative in Colombia and focal point for the Andean Countries of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Dolores Barrientos Alemán, to present the Interreligious Initiative for Tropical Forests program in our country and the work that the organization has been carrying out for seven years.

During the meeting, held on October 7 in Bogotá, the Mexican dignitary had the opportunity to learn firsthand about IRI-Colombia’s main lines of work; advances in training, advocacy, and communications; and the main challenges facing the Amazon.

The director of IRI-Colombia also referred to the organization’s impact on the country’s religious sector and the essential contribution of religious leaders, churches, and denominational institutions in the fight against climate change through the protection of the Amazon rainforest.
