IRI Indonesia joined a strategy consolidation meeting in Jakarta with the Coalition for the Indigenous Peoples Bill (47 civil-society organizations) to accelerate passage of the Indigenous Peoples Bill after 16 years of delays in the national legislative program.
With the bill re-included in the 2026 Priority Prolegnas, the coalition reviewed 2025 advocacy, identified 2026 political entry points, agreed on a shared timeline and clarified division of roles across policy, lobbying, communications and coordination teams. IRI Indonesia’s role centers on mobilizing cross-faith religious networks and strengthening advocacy narratives that frame Indigenous rights, forest protection and stewardship as moral responsibilities.
The coalition held a joint press conference emphasizing public pressure and an inclusive legislative process involving Indigenous communities, women, youth, academics and civil society.
