IRI-Colombia Strengthens Its Commitment to Safe Environments Free from Gender-Based Violence

As part of a zero-tolerance policy, IRI-Colombia reaffirms its commitment to the prevention and eradication of all forms of gender-based violence and abuse of power, especially those involving non-consensual or coercive sexual acts. In line with this objective, the Initiative is moving forward with a structured training process and the development of its Policy on Protection against Exploitation, Harassment, and Sexual Abuse (PEAAS).

On March 20, the national team and religious leaders coordinating local chapters participated in a training session led by Rainforest Foundation Norway (RFN). This session allowed for strengthening knowledge, unifying criteria, and delving deeper into the principles, approaches, and mechanisms necessary to ensure safe, respectful environments free from any form of violence within IRI- Colombia’s activities, both in the Amazon and in Bogotá.

In addition, a working session was held to develop an action plan for formulating the PEAAS policy. During this meeting, key steps were reviewed, responsibilities were defined, and a timeline was established to ensure rigorous and timely progress.

This process not only meets international standards but also reaffirms IRI-Colombia’s ethical commitment to the comprehensive care of individuals. The development of this policy represents a fundamental step toward strengthening trust, transparency, and consistency between the values promoted by the Initiative and its practices on the ground.
