During the month of July, IRI-Colombia held a series of strategic working meetings with Miguel Ángel Rubio, a member of the House of Representatives for the 2026–2030 term, and with his Legislative Work Unit (UTL), with the aim of advancing the development of a parliamentary agenda focused on strengthening governance in the Colombian Amazon.

As a result of this technical and collaborative process, a draft resolution was prepared and submitted to the Speaker of the House of Representatives proposing the creation of the Ad Hoc National Coordination Commission for the Amazon. This commission is intended to serve as a forum for inter-institutional coordination that facilitates ongoing dialogue among Congress, government agencies, the scientific community, indigenous peoples, civil society organizations, and other strategic actors committed to protecting the Amazon.
In addition, progress was made in drafting the bill proposing the creation of the Legal Commission for the Amazon, a strategic initiative that seeks to provide Congress with a permanent mechanism for monitoring, analyzing, and advancing public policies, regulatory frameworks, and political oversight actions related to the conservation of the Amazon, sustainable development, climate action, and the guarantee of the rights of the communities inhabiting this territory of global importance.
These initiatives reflect IRI-Colombia’s commitment to strengthening environmental institutions, fostering coordination among science, politics, and faith-based communities, and promoting legislative instruments that help consolidate a national vision for the protection of the Amazon.
