In order to consolidate its leadership in the protection of Amazonian tropical forests, IRI-Colombia develops a series of institutional campaigns throughout the year, including the installation of large-format billboards at airports and strategic points in the municipalities where it is present through local chapters.
On this occasion, it was the turn of La Macarena Airport, where the Initiative installed, with the support of the municipal mayor’s office, a large-format sign (12 m wide by 3.5 m high) on February 26. With the fence, IRI-Colombia seeks to position itself in the municipality, while drawing attention to factors that threaten the Amazon, such as forest fires.
According to the Meta Tourism Institute, around 12,000 people visited La Macarena in 2024, so it is estimated that the number of people who will see the fence when they arrive at the airport will be much higher.
The warning is in addition to the seven billboards located in San José del Guaviare (4); in Florencia (2) and in San Vicente del Caguán (1).
