On 28 May, IRI Colombia held a virtual meeting with the Legislative Technical Unit (UTL) of the Honorable Representative to the Chamber, Dr. Julia Miranda, who chairs the Commission on Forests and Climate Change in the Congress of the Republic. In preparation for World Environment Day, the meeting provided an opportunity to explore collaborative approaches in advocating for the protection of forests and the environment. In this context, the importance of strengthening IRI Colombia’s political impact on the country’s environmental agenda was reinforced. To this end, IRI Colombia proposed the formation of a strategic alliance with the Congressional Commission on Forests and Climate Change, as well as with other environmental organizations. The meeting culminated in an agreement to establish a joint working group, which will bring together representatives of the Commission on Forests and Climate Change and different environmental organizations to develop a series of activities aimed at raising awareness among legislators and the public on the deforestation crisis in the Colombian Amazon.
