IRI Peru facilitates meeting between congresswoman and indigenous community threatened by highway

Indigenous peoples of the Maijuna living in Loreto, Putumayo, are being threatened by a highway project that is being built and that will cross their territories, endangering the community and the forests and biodiversity of their territories. Through ProPurús – a member of IRI Peru’s Advisory Council – the Maijuna have requested a meeting with IRI Peru and Congresswoman Ruth Luque to present the seriousness of the situation to the authorities, for which they will come to Lima.  IRI Peru is coordinating a meeting with the congresswoman and the indigenous leaders, to be held in June.
